| If
you encounter bedrock, isn't the cost of installing 3" pipe
versus historic pipe almost the same?
In general,
the trenching for 3" high
density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) piping is narrower, with more
vertical sides, and the bedding for HDPE requires significantly
less material and effort than jointed historic systems. The
HDPE piping is normally welded at ground level and dropped
into the trenches, minimizing trench widths for installation. Historic
piping is assembled in the trenches and requires much more
width, effort, excavation, and control. The cost of
installing 3" HDPE pipe is significantly less compared
to 8" PVC pipe in rock and earth excavation conditions |
