20/04/2009 Clearford Announces Strategic Alliance to Deliver Integrated Water Management Solutions Ottawa, Ontario – (April 20, 2009) - Clearford Industries Inc. (“Clearford” or the “Company”, TSX-V: CLI) announced today that it has entered into a letter of intent to create a strategic alliance with two leading edge Ontario-based environmental companies – Filter Innovations Inc. and Aslan Technologies Inc. This strategic alliance, once formed, will provide the capability to supply communities with integrated water management solutions encompassing wastewater collection, treatment and conservation, and water distribution including potable water. Filter Innovations is a leader in the delivery of containerized Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment systems. Aslan Technologies, among its varied areas of expertise, provides innovative, world class technology and equipment for water purification. Clearford uses patented technologies to create systems for sealed wastewater collection and partial treatment, and for water distribution. “The Clearford Small Bore Sewer™ (SBS™) system delivers wastewater with low biological oxygen demand (“BOD”) and low suspended solids while modulating the flow to the treatment facility. This provides excellent input to membrane filtration processes like the advanced technology of the Filter Innovations solution. Aslan Technologies’ state of the art technology provides further purification of the water through reverse osmosis. This combination allows a very significant percentage of water used in urban communities to be returned to water sources with quality that at least matches the fresh water being received by the community,” said John Kelly, President and CEO of Clearford. Kelly continues, “This strategic alliance offers municipalities and developers a comprehensive, cost-effective, flexible and green solution, recognizing the growing importance of water conservation on a global basis”. “At Filter Innovations, we are excited about the opportunity to work with Clearford and Aslan to offer communities an integrated water solution”, says company President John Dragasevich. “We will be able to customize our water treatment systems to maximize the benefits of Clearford’s SBS™ solution. We believe that there is significant demand for this integrated technology, since water conservation and environmental integrity are key considerations in many communities here in Canada and around the world.” Mike Myers, President of Aslan Technologies, comments that: “Reuse of water resources is a win for everyone – whether it’s recycling water for industrial or irrigation purposes, or providing a source of drinkable water in communities facing treatment challenges. We at Aslan are looking forward to working with Clearford and Filter Innovations to bring the best of our technology to bear in providing a fully integrated solution.” A worldwide demand exists for systems which reduce the net impact of urban water consumption on available supplies of fresh water. The ability to deliver an integrated collection and treatment system for a cost that is comparable to the costs of traditional sewage collection, primary and secondary treatment, while returning to the environment water of drinkable quality is seen by the Company as a significant and immediate commercial opportunity. The current focus by governments on using infrastructure investment to both improve the quality of public services and generate sustainable employment provides an impetus to the demand for cost effective systems for the management of wastewater and the conservation of fresh water supplies. Rod Bryden, Chairman of Clearford expressed his enthusiasm for the Company’s future: “An urgent demand for new methods of meeting the need for clean fresh water in urban communities provides a dynamic opportunity for Clearford and its alliance partners. We are excited to embark on this partnership with two organizations with proven track records and excellent and fully complementary technologies.” While Clearford, Filter Innovations and Aslan believe that significant and near term opportunities exist for this integrated solution there can be no assurance that customer agreements will be reached or that such agreements will be profitable should they be implemented.
