Clearford to Deliver Integrated Filtration and Reverse Osmosis with its Small Bore Sewer™ Collection System
Ottawa, Ontario – (March 31, 2009) - Clearford Industries Inc. (“Clearford” or the “Company”, TSX-V: CLI) announced today its strategic business focus following the sale last year of its concrete division. Clearford will integrate its Small Bore Sewer™ (SBS™) with membrane based filtration and reverse osmosis systems provided by third party producers of these technologies, to deliver to communities a turnkey capacity to receive wastewater and deliver potable quality water.
“The SBS™ delivers wastewater with low biological oxygen demand (“BOD”) and low suspended solids while modulating the flow to the treatment facility. This provides excellent input to state of the art membranes. After membrane treatment, the water is purified by reverse osmosis to potable standards. This combination will allow a very significant percentage of water used in urban communities to be returned to water sources with quality that at least matches the fresh water being received by the community,” said John Kelly, President and CEO of Clearford.
Clearford uses patented technologies to create a sealed wastewater collection and partial treatment system. One of the communities in Ontario in which the SBS™ has been in continuous operation is the community of Wardsville where it has been in operation for ten years. A recent assessment was conducted as a research project in association with The Civil and Chemical Engineering Department of Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. The report found the SBS™ to have performed with a high level of reliability.
Clearford believes that a worldwide demand exists for systems which reduce the net impact of urban water consumption on available supplies of fresh water. The ability to deliver an integrated collection and treatment system for a cost that is comparable to the costs of traditional sewage collection, primary and secondary treatment, while returning to the environment water of drinkable quality is seen by the Company as a significant and immediate commercial opportunity.
The current focus by governments on using infrastructure investment to both improve the quality of public services and generate sustainable employment provides an impetus to the demand for cost effective systems for the management of wastewater and the conservation of fresh water supplies. Further announcements on Clearford’s implementation of this strategy are expected in the second quarter of this year.
Rod Bryden, Chairman of Clearford expressed his enthusiasm for the Company’s future: “An urgent demand for new methods of meeting the need for clean fresh water in urban communities provides a dynamic opportunity for Clearford. To succeed requires a clear vision, leading technology and effective execution. Under the direction of CEO, John Kelly, Clearford will appoint a President and Chief Operating Officer to focus on execution. Recruitment for this position will be completed during the second quarter”, Rod Bryden said.
