Clearford India Update Q1 2023
By Sanjay Deshpande, Executive Director & Head of Operations, Clearford India
After an eventful end to the 2022 year, Clearford India has continued its momentum with a highly productive Q1, during which a number of projects have either been completed, advanced to the next phase, or are currently under discussion. Here is an overview of the latest developments for Clearford’s projects in India.
Projects Underway
Alwa Village, Gujarat, Phase 3C
To kick off the year, Clearford India partnered with the project-funding corporate, Larsen & Tubro Energy – Hydrocarbon, to conduct a village education program which took place on India’s Republic Day, January 26th. The program was aimed at raising awareness about the crucial role of sanitation in improving public health and the overall well-being of communities. This initiative was a significant step towards creating a sustainable and healthy environment for the residents of the community, which has been a key focus of Clearford India’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

Regarding project advancement, Clearford India made significant progress at the Alwa Village site. Over the span of just three months, the team installed the full sewer pipe network, constructed a 70m3/day sewage treatment plant (STP), and connected 125 homes to the ClearDigest Smart Digesters.
This project is a remarkable feat, as it is the single largest CSR rural development project awarded to Clearford India to date.
UltraTech Kharia Khangar Town, Rajasthan, Phase 1
The UltraTech project in Kharia Khangar Town, Rajasthan, is Clearford India’s second partnership with the major Indian corporation, Aditya Birla Group. After completing the installation of the pipe network, which included horizontal drilling underneath a busy railway line, the project has progressed to the final stage of commissioning and handover. In this phase, Clearford India will deliver 150 m3 of partially treated wastewater to the STP for further treatment and reuse at various stages of the putty and cement manufacturing process.
This project was designed to reduce the unit’s reliance on freshwater, which is currently sourced from the rapidly depleting groundwater table.
Hathiyana Village, Assam
Clearford India converted the prospective Hathiyana Village opportunity into a concrete project this quarter by completing all the necessary preliminary work—conducting comprehensive household surveys, contour mapping to study the land’s topography, identifying a local contractor, design engineering the Clearford One™ system, and generating a bill of quantities.

Moreover, Clearford India’s Executive Director & Head of Operations, Sanjay Deshpande, and Project Manager, Kautuk Patel, personally visited the project site in February and March to confirm the accuracy of the preliminary design and to explain the project’s scope to the local community. Clearford India sees community engagement as a crucial opportunity to not only express the importance of sanitation best practices but also to ensure that the project has a positive impact on the local population and the environment. |

Future Projects
Clearford India is on the verge of new and exciting developments that will bring its sanitation solutions to an even wider audience across the country. With existing projects transitioning into their next phases, the company is also seeking out fresh opportunities to service resorts, manufacturers, and food and beverage clients. Furthermore, Clearford India is continuing discussions with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati to expand its impact in the northeastern states.
Alongside, one of the company’s most intriguing new prospects involves modifying the Clearford One system to only collect and treat greywater for a 200-home colony in Warangal, showcasing the company’s ability to adapt and innovate to meet the unique needs of its partners. The future of Clearford India is bright, and these developments demonstrate its unwavering commitment to providing innovative and sustainable sanitation solutions across India.
Clearford India in the News
In the midst of all this, Clearford India continued its involvement with outreach programs, including in-person discussions with TriLegal Advisors in Mumbai about funding projects through Impact and Green Bonds. Shortly after, Mr. Deshpande travelled to IIT Guwahati to sign a partnership memorandum of understanding that solidifies a co-brand strategy for both parties to work together in the northeastern states of India.
To conclude the quarter, Mr. Deshpande had the pleasure to meet the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs Canada, at the Indo-Canadian Business Chambers Annual Gala hosted on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Raisina Dialogue on foreign policy trends.
