Clearford India Update Q1 2024

By Sanjay Deshpande, Executive Director & Head of Operations, Clearford India

Clearford India had a busy first quarter filled with projects advancements and business development activities. This period coincides with the conclusion of the Indian fiscal year, ending on March 31st. As a result, the team strategically focused on finalizing existing projects and securing new client engagements for the upcoming fiscal year.

Clearford India’s mission in deploying proprietary sanitation technology and India’s focus on Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF+) projects has one common denominator: sustainability. In one of our more recent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funded projects, the India team has begun to provide proper sanitation in the village of Ghoramara, which did not have any facilities prior to this contract.

Continue reading the blog to learn more about the efforts at this village and other new and existing projects.

Projects Underway

Ghoramara Village, Assam

Recently awarded another Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funded project, Clearford has begun working at the CSR project located in the village of Ghoramara. Early 2024 began with the construction of the ClearDigest, sewage treatment plant (STP), and 11 toilets for families, who did not have facilities.

HINDALCO Muri Unit – Phase 2

At the close of the first quarter, Clearford was awarded the Phase 2 design purchase order (PO) for the HINDALCO Muri site. During the second phase, the Clearford One wastewater management system developed by Clearford will connect the remaining homes of the South Colony residential township to their existing STP. The connection will ensure efficient and environmentally friendly sanitation solutions for the Township. We anticipate more to come with additional POs for the Digester internal Mixers and Attenuators supply and pipe laying work.

New Projects

Lucknow Cantonment—Pilot Project

Exceeding expectations by nearly 20%, the pilot project executed by the Indian Army within Lucknow Cantonment has demonstrated promising results in reducing sewage pollutants. This success was achieved with the assistance of the Clearford India team. The project commenced with the construction of a single 20,000 L ClearDigest Smart Digester tank and has now expanded to include a 15m3 STP. With the Digester completed, the STP is now under construction. The Army Engineering team recently compared the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) values in the raw sewage against the Digester output. They discovered a remarkable reduction of approximately 78% in BOD and COD, and about 89% in TSS—far exceeding Clearford’s promised reduction of 60-65%.

Averipatti Army Base, Himachal Pradesh

Clearford India has officially been awarded its first government project in India. The Averipatti Army Base project includes the design of a complete Clearford CAMUS solution and the supply of key components as well as construction supervision of the execution of the sewer network and a 25m3 STP. Clearford was awarded this project through a competitive bidding process on the Government e-Marketplace (GEMS).

Canada Trade Missions

Following the relaunch of the Canada and India Trade Missions, Clearford India joined two missions to the States of Assam and Gujarat, and attended corporate meetings in Mumbai.

There has been significant interest in Clearford’s work across all three localities, from both the private and public sectors. We anticipate numerous additional meetings in the coming quarter. Already in Assam, the government has sent two separate teams to inspect the Hathiyana project and has requested Clearford’s assistance with some project sites that are encountering sewage issues.

Additionally, Clearford India has been invited to visit industrial plants in various parts of the country including one location in the south, Birla Carbon in Tamil Nadu, and one in the east, Jindal Stainless in Odisha. Furthering these efforts, Clearford has also participated in detailed discussions with GIFT City and the Ahmedabad City Municipal Authorities in the State of Gujarat.

Global Project Exploration

Continuing the exploration into five new countries, Clearford spent this quarter researching projects in Nepal and Senegal. Clearford is currently collaborating with a client in Senegal to assess the feasibility of installing the Clearford One system in a community that comprises 500 villas.
