Clearford India Update Q2 2024

By Sanjay Deshpande, Executive Director & Head of Operations, Clearford India

Coinciding with the start of the Indian 2024-25 financial year, the Clearford India team began Q2 by completing ongoing projects and initiating newly awarded projects, including Muri Phase 2 and Averipati Army Base.

Unfortunately, progress was significantly hindered in the months of May and June due to India’s exceptionally hot summer, with temperatures soaring to 40-50ºC across most of the country. The State of Jharkhand, where the Muri project is located, in-fact issued a heat advisory, necessitating a halt to all outdoor work between 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Projects Underway

Ghoramara Village, Assam

The Clearford India team completed the construction of the digester and procured the sewer network pipes for this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funded project in the State of Assam, sourced from Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Co. Ltd. Alongside, Clearford built toilets for 11 previously unserviced households. Work at this site is currently suspended due to the monsoon season, as heavy rainfall prevents any substantial work from happening.

HINDALCO Muri Unit – Phase 2

Despite the inclement weather conditions this quarter, the Clearford India team managed to find opportunities to supervise the construction of approximately 25% of the digesters required at this HINDALCO Muri Phase 2 project. We are further collaborating with this existing client to design the required sewer network, aiming to start this work in the upcoming quarter.

Lucknow Pilot Project – Indian Army

This pilot project, executed by the Indian Army within Lucknow Cantonment with a single 20,000 L Clearford Smart Digester, has expanded to include a 15m3 sewage treatment plant (STP) and was completed during this quarter. The team is in the process of commissioning the STP and subsequently testing the treated water to ensure compliance with water quality standards.

Averipati Army Base, Himachal Pradesh

Executed under very stringent timelines, this project saw the completion of most civil works, including the digesters and pipe network. The construction of a Clearford CAMUS 25m3 STP also commenced, with the goal of completion and handover by September 2024, a remarkable four-month turnaround from construction start.
