Job Summary

As a member of the operations and maintenance team, the Senior Operator is responsible to oversee the process, operation and maintenance of various types of water and wastewater treatment plants including sewage pumping stations. The Senior Operator will ensure a high quality of water deliver and wastewater effluent discharge that is within government regulation and standards. This is a full-time, hourly position based out of our Clearford ASI office in Goderich, Ontario.

Job Responsibility

The Senior Operator will supervise operators, manage their day to day responsibilities, and interact with customers. In addition, the Senior Operator will be responsible for, among other duties:

  • Interacts with customers, when required, in a professional manner;
  • Performs Senior Operator duties and responsibilities as required under regulation 128/04;
  • Schedules and supervises operators with respect to their job duties and responsibilities;
  • Installs and programs new equipment maintaining an updated log;
  • Conducts weekly maintenance on various types of water and wastewater treatment plants including sewage pumping stations;
  • Conducts process analysis and adjusts equipment for the efficient operation of the treatment plants;
  • Manages sampling of water and wastewater including monitoring wells;
  • Responds immediately to any functionality issues in the process, alarms, and adverse water quality;
  • Monitors log entries and test results for compliance with current regulations, approvals, and policies;
  • Conducts basic electrical & mechanical trouble shooting and repairs on basic equipment involved in the operation of the plant;
  • Orders chemical, materials, and equipment as required;
  • Coordinates confined space entry in accordance with applicable regulations;
  • Maintains cleanliness and tidiness inside the plant;
  • Observes and follows health and safety regulation inside and outside of the plant;
  • Conducts meetings and training of direct reports.

Required Knowledge, Experience, & Competencies:

  • Class ll wastewater license;
  • Class l Water Treatment or Limited Certificate;
  • Three (3) years’ experience as an operator in a water/wastewater treatment environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory position, providing leadership and direction preferably in a water/wastewater treatment environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the latest technologies in the water and wastewater field and knowledge of engineering and construction methods;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the processing of water and wastewater treatment plant, distribution and collection systems;
  • Demonstrated customer relations and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills; SCADA operation;
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract, and access to a vehicle.
