Job Summary

Clearford’s integrated water technology and management solutions include full-service system operations and maintenance by licensed operators; engineering, manufacturing and construction of Clearford One™, Clearford M brane™ and UV Pure™ modular water and wastewater solutions; and comprehensive project delivery and financing services under the Clearford Pay-for-Performance (P4P™) program.

As a member of the operations and maintenance team, the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) will report to the VP of Operations & Maintenance and will oversee the operation and maintenance of Sanitary Sewer Bypass Pumping Systems.

Job Responsibility

The ORO will supervise operators and manage their day to day responsibilities. Bypass pumping projects may be as short as one (1) week to as long as one(1) year. There may be multiple bypass pumping projects being carried out at the same time. In addition, the ORO will be responsible for, among other duties:

  • Interacts with customers, when required, in a professional manner;
  • Performs Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) duties and responsibilities as required under regulation 128/04;
  • Schedules and supervises operators with respect to their job duties and responsibilities;
  • Conducts weekly maintenance on various types of water and wastewater treatment plants including sewage pumping stations;
  • adjusts equipment for the efficient operation of the temporary pumping system;
  • Responds immediately to any functionality issues and alarms
  • Monitors log entries and test results for compliance with current regulations, approvals, and policies;
  • Conducts basic electrical & mechanical trouble shooting and repairs on basic equipment involved in the operation of the temporary pumping system;
  • Orders chemical, materials, and equipment as required;
  • Coordinates confined space entry in accordance with applicable regulations;
  • Maintains cleanliness and tidiness;
  • Observes and follows health and safety regulation;
  • Conducts meetings and training of direct reports.

Required Knowledge, Experience, & Competencies:

  • Class III wastewater collection license;
  • Three (3) years’ experience as an operator in a collection system or wastewater treatment environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory position, providing leadership and direction preferably in a wastewater collection or treatment environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the latest technologies in the wastewater field and knowledge of engineering and construction methods;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the collection and pumping of wastewater
  • Demonstrated customer relations and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills; SCADA operation;
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract, and access to a vehicle.
